Glover N64 prototype leak causes misunderstanding with rights owner

On February 6, 2021 Piko Interactive contacted the Twitter user, Forest of illusion, requesting that the distribution of a Glover N64 prototype ROM. The company, which currently holds the rights to Glover, also threatened legal action. This is according to a tweet posted by Forest of Illusion. At this point, the conflict seems to be over and both parties suggest it was the result of a misunderstanding.

Piko Interactive teased that a Glover The project was launched on 4 December 2020, although specific details about the nature of the project were not disclosed at the time. We now know that Piko Interactive “… is planning an N64 car launch with other ports in a Kickstarter campaign.” The company embarked on the release of Forest of Illusion, fearing it would jeopardize any future release of cartridges. The misunderstanding comes from the belief that the gameplay of Forest of Illusion and Piko Interactive was the same. However, it has been shown that the two constructions differ in different ways.

Piko Interactive further said that he supports the retention and plans to release ‘many’ of the games he has collected and purchased. The company also believes that the leak was beneficial in some way, as it led to the discovery of additional bugs by members of the community.

Piko Interactive apologized for coming off a bit strong against conservation efforts.
