Data from the Consumer Reports consumer satisfaction survey revealed that the American electric car manufacturer Tesla is the most popular car brand in the United States. The findings were obtained from the 2020 annual car survey of the consumer law firm, which involved 369,000 vehicles from various car brands.
Several questions were put to car owners in the study, although the main investigation asked the respondents if they would buy their vehicle again if given the chance with the price, performance, reliability, convenience, pleasure and the like. Tesla was eventually considered the most popular brand, with the EV manufacturer scoring a total of 88 points out of 100.
Interestingly, the survey by Consumer Reports includes owners of vehicles from Tesla’s entire existing range, consisting of the Model S, Model 3, Model X and Model Y. This was not true for other car manufacturers. Hyundai owners, for example, provided just enough data for five specific vehicles, despite the South Korean carmaker selling more than five models in the United States.
The fact that Tesla’s entire range scores extremely high marks speaks volumes of the EV manufacturer’s strong customer base. This is especially noticeable due to the reliability point of Consumer Reports, which put Tesla at the bottom of the list, due to the Model X’s falcon wing doors and infotainment system, as well as the Model S ‘door handles and suspension.
Interestingly, Lincoln, which follows Tesla as the second most popular car brand in the United States, is also poorly placed in the Consumer Reports reliability survey. The reverse is true for brands like Buick, with the automaker having a high reliability ranking but poor owner satisfaction. Some brands such as Cadillac and Mercedes-Benz, on the other hand, scored poorly on both reliability and owner satisfaction.
