Biden gets emotional as he discusses Hunter’s son

President Biden said in a new interview with CBS’s Norah O’Donnell that reading excerpts from his son Hunter’s upcoming memory gave me hope.

“The honesty with which he stepped forward and talked about the problem … it gave me hope to read it,” the president said, becoming audibly emotional as he spoke about his son’s struggle with drug abuse.

“It was like my son’s back,” he added.

The president made the remarks in an interview Sunday before the Super Bowl, his first television network interview since taking office.

“My son, like many people, like many people you know at home, had a drug problem,” Joe Biden replied at the time. “He passed it, he corrected it, he worked on it, and I’m proud of him.”

The president made a similar note in his interview with O’Donnell, in which he portrayed his son’s addiction struggle as many Americans.

“You know, I’m betting there’s not a family you know who does not have someone in the family who has had drug or alcohol problems,” he said.

Hunter Biden’s memoir, “Beautiful Things,” will be released in April and is expected to honestly address his drug use.

Hunter Biden confirmed late last year that the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Delaware was investigating his tax cases. Reports have suggested that the investigation focuses on his foreign business dealings, which were the target of former President Trump’s attacks during the campaign.

Hunter Biden is the only living son of the president. His other son, Beau Biden, died in 2015 after a battle with brain cancer.
