Gundy.
As Breen recounts, Toscano-Anderson is from East Oakland, and he went to high school, just 20 minutes from Oracle Arena. After a four-year college career at Marquette, he jumped for pro teams in Mexico and Venezuela, then reached the NBA’s GBA League, after which he shot with the Warriors. The 27-year-old swingman is now in his second season with the Dubs and has become an integral part of the team’s rotation.
Van Gundy initially made a helpful contribution to the conversation and noted how difficult it was for Toscano-Anderson to play the game plan when Van Gundy selected the U.S. national team for men and Toscano-Anderson played for the national team in Mexico.
But after Breen explained why Toscano-Anderson no. 95 wear – this is to honor his grandparents as well as the 95th Avenue of Oakland, where he grew up – Van Gundy intervened with a poorly thought-out stand-up bit.
“Well, if I ever make it to the NBA,” Van Gundy said, “I’m going [wear] 612, because that was my address in Martinez: 612 Blue Ridge Drive … if they’re going to allow 95, they better have to allow 612 Blue Ridge Drive. I want it all there. ‘
Sometimes the best way is to say nothing at all.
