GLOUCESTER, Va. – According to her family, a woman in Virginia died within hours of receiving the Pfizer coronavirus vaccine.
The woman was identified as 58-year-old Drene Keyes. She received the first dose of virus, waited 15 minutes after the show and left.
“An employee said she was trying to get in the car and said ‘something is not right,'” her daughter Lisa Jones said.
Keyes, who had diabetes, sleep apnea and was obese, struggled to breathe and started vomiting. She was rushed to hospital and died.
The Virginia Department of Health said in a statement Friday that preliminary findings indicate that the cause of death in the Gloucester woman’s death was not anaphylaxis, indicating a serious, potentially life-threatening allergic reaction. The state medical investigator is investigating the incident and officials say it could take several weeks before additional information is available.
The VDH says the CDC is now gathering additional information after the death was reported to the Vaccine Advers Event Reporting System (VAERS).
“I want to express my condolences to the family. Any loss is terrible,” he said. Norman Oliver, state commissioner for health, said.
