During a Final Fantasy XIV director last year, who outlined the wave of content for the 5.4 update, it was revealed that a major event is planned for February. Well, it’s today, and it’s called the FFXIV announcement window. Although it is not explicitly stated what will be announced during the event, it will likely include the first unveiling of the next expansion of FFXIV.
The FFXIV announcement window will be a live broadcast that will take place on February 5, 2021 (today), starting at 17:30 PT / 20:30 ET (February 6, 1:30 GST), and it will include live Japanese – post-English interpretation with English sound. You can watch the livestream via the official FFXIV YouTube or FFXIV Twitch channels. We also included an inclusion of the stream below.
The event would initially be part of a larger 14-hour live stream instead of Fan Fest having to be canceled due to the global pandemic. However, we will also get a new Live Letter from the Producer stream, PT, to the announcement window later tonight at 22:00, to describe what is coming in patch 5.5 for FFXIV.
Not much has been said about the showcase itself, though you can expect it to be the opportunity for Square Enix to showcase the upcoming expansion for FFXIV. The MMORPG was on a schedule that delivers one extension every two years and five important content updates between the story events in the extensions. The latest one, Shadowbringers, was launched in July 2019 and received great praise – for the context, its unveiling took place on November 2018. The previous two expansions, Stormblood and Heavensward, were launched in 2017 and 2015 respectively.
Patch 5.4, which went live on December 8, continued the main story search line, along with the whimsical dungeon called Matoya’s Relict. The update also included the final phase of the Eden Raid series, and more in the Sorrow of Werlyt missions you put out against Emerald Weapon in a boss fight. Major changes have also taken place in the Monk work, as well as other features such as Triple Triad and Explorer mode for dungeons. Subsequent updates, such as patch 5.45 that landed this week, made changes to the Ishgardian Restoration content and Bozjan Southern Front search.
