Gronk and Tom Brady go head to head – in a quirky new Super Bowl 2021 ad.
The two former New England Patriots teammates, who both now play for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, appear in a T-Mobile ad that begins Friday before the big game against the Kansas City Chiefs.
In the ad, which takes place last year, Brady (43) calls his partner to ask what his next step should be – after two decades in the game and six Super Bowl rings on his fingers.
“I have one word for you: retire,” former retiree Rob Gronkowski, 31, told Brady as he left for a sunny golf course. “If you retire now, you will be walking on soft sand in a week. Retirement is like winning another! Maybe I’ll even join you. ”
Besides, that’s not what Brady heard, no thanks to his ‘spotty network’, says a voice-over.
“If you retire now, you are soft and weak,” shouted the gurgling feed. “Just come to Florida and win another one.”
“As easy as that, Gronk,” Brady said to himself after the call. Fast forward to this year, and the rest is history. “I’m taking Gronk along,” Brady promised at a fake press conference at the end of the ad.
So that’s both they ended up in Tampa. Maybe spotty networks aren’t such a bad thing after all.
The Brady-Gronk gag is just one of the Super Bowl 2021 commercials being released early before Sunday’s big game, which starts at 18:30 on CBS. Co-football adult Joe Montana also appears in an ad for Guinness, while another kind of big John Travolta and his daughter Ella Travolta’s Grease “revives in a new ad for Scotts & Miracle Gro.
