Capcom has unveiled a cryptic resident Evil Village preview asking players to complete the edited sections of a written field log.
The preview gives a vague idea of Ethan Winters’ latest predicament in the titular Resident Evil Village, which apparently has already claimed the lives of a few people. There are three sections of the memo edited, but it looks like an NV fan on Twitter cracked the code with an image of the map that appears in the Resident Evil 8 Collector’s Edition.

Reporting of ‘Beneviento House’, commissioned to monitor the ‘town’. Noticed recent tracks and blood along the trail. Signs indicate tugs. Begin to take in residents of the castle and activities. #REBHFun3 February 2021
If you look closely enough, you can barely make out the edges of the first and last letter of each edited word, and it seems that NV got it right. The note probably reads: Report from Beneviento House, commissioned to monitor the town. Noticed recent tracks and blood along the trail. Signs indicate trailing bodies. Start recording castle dwellers and activities.
The best part is the indemnity of ‘does not represent the real game’ at the end, it’s just to remind you that this tattered and coffee-smeared sheet of paper may look slightly different at launch.
In any case, the message refers to the Dimitrescu Castle, which you will explore in the Resident Evil Village demo, while the Beneviento House is one of the four houses we know from the Collector’s Edition card mentioned earlier. Along with Beneviento there are House Dimitrescu, House Heisenberg and House Moreau. How the four houses are connected to each other, we have no idea, but we know that the internet’s favorite Resident Evil-long vampire woman is in charge of one of them.
Here’s all we know Resident Evil Village’s Lady Dimitrescu and what she tells us about the story of the game.
