SALT LAKE CITY – As more vaccinations spread throughout Utah, Gov. Spencer Cox announced Thursday that an expansion of residents is eligible to receive it.

At its weekly news conference on the COVID-19 response, Cox noted the weekly increase of 95,674 doses – adding that Utah has now administered more doses than the number of people who tested positive.

“We’re trying to be more viral than the virus and it’s happening,” Cox said.

With a view to March and April, Cox says it looks better than he thought. According to projections, Utah could get nearly 200,000 total vaccines per week, significantly higher than 33,000 per week.

“Again, I want to be clear that these are just projections,” Cox said. “But these are important projections because they enable us to start planning for a big increase in March and April.”

With that, Cox announced that it is eligible for vaccinations from 70 years and older to 65 years and older, starting in March.

The new order includes 18-and-older with comorbidities that pose the greatest danger to the coronovirus.
