Genshin Impact introduced his latest character, Xiao, Tuesday night. While fans are willing to roll for him in practical ways – such as saving money in the game to get a chance to win him – people who want to play as Xiao create superstitious rituals to increase their chances of the new character pull, to maximize.
I put maximum in quotes because these rituals do not actually improve the chances of rolling Xiao. Genshin Impact is an open-world, free-to-play fantasy fantasy gachas game that uses microtransactions to roll and get random items and characters – in other words, an outdoor system.
The chance to get Xiao or any other 5-star character Genshin Impact is low. Under the current banner, players have a 0.6% chance of drawing any 5-star character and a much smaller chance of drawing Xiao. Players therefore turned to other ways to improve their chances (at least mentally).
After Xiao’s release, Genshin Impact players filled TikTok with all sorts of fun pre-roll rituals. Many have posted calls circulating with Xiao’s face and his canonical favorite food, almond tofu.
Others just push a specific set of buttons and go to special places in the hope that it will help their chances.
Some people “manifest” on behalf of friends and followers as in this video.
Polygon spoke to game writer and developer Sisi Jiang about why they think these rituals flared up.
“Honestly, I think it’s because of the community camaraderie,” Jiang said. ‘It’s like showing that you want to get a specific character. I don’t think so many people would take a photo shoot to summon circles if they did not have people to share it with.
‘I mean at the end of the day most of my friends know that the actual rate of getting a particular character is terrible. ”
Again, I want to emphasize that none of these rituals will help the chances of Xiao. If you really want to get better with the game, you better visit some guides. But like using some lucky lingerie or superstitions in Pokémon, the fans really grabbed the fans.
