Apple’s rocky implementation of iCloud password syncing on Windows has taken another hit: you can no longer download the version of the app that was able to sync passwords from your Apple devices with your Chrome browser on a Windows computer (via Windows Central). Version 12 of Apple’s iCloud for Windows app was released last week with alleged support for the feature, but the Chrome extension to make it work was only available two days ago. Now version 12 is no longer in the Windows Store, with version 11.6.
Oddly enough, the change log in the Windows Store still says that the password sync feature is on. When downloading, however, the app shows the version as 11.6 at the top right. We verified it ourselves and you can see that there is no password sync option in our first screenshot below.

As The 8-bit comments, the late-to-the-party Chrome extension is still available on the Chrome Web Store, at least for now. Anyone still on version 11 of the iCloud for Windows app can’t upgrade and take advantage of the extension anyway. But if you currently have version 12 on your computer, Windows will not let you downgrade to the previous version.
It’s unclear why Apple pulled the update – the reviews for the Chrome extension are not good, but many of them are users who report that it does not work on Mac, for which it was not designed. Whatever the reason, it was one of the junk rolls I saw in Apple’s recent memory. The story seems to be the same as the last time I wrote about iCloud passwords for Windows: if you want it, you’ll have to wait a little longer.
Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
