Hometown hero Fernando Tatis, Jr., is the cover for Sony San Diego Studios MLB The Show 21, which launches on April 20, but the real news is that the game will also be released on Xbox One and Xbox Series X the same day.
The unusual launch over a console of a Sony-developing game gives Xbox baseball fans their first game since 2013 Major League Baseball 2K13 from Visual Concepts and 2K Sports. MLB The Show 21 will also have platform reconciliation (among Xbox and PlayStation devices) and compatibility between games on different generations (PlayStation 4 to PlayStation 5 and Xbox One to Xbox Series X).
However, intergenerational savings do not include the introduction of careers and Road to the Show progress from previous versions of the game. Sony introduced this feature, the first and only of its kind in sports titles, with MLB The Show 14 and 15 on PlayStation 4.
“We have nothing to share about the future of the feature, but we are aware of its popularity in the community,” Sony San Diego wrote in a frequently asked question.
However, there is no free upgrade from the previous console generation to the current family. Players who want to play MLB the show 21 on both sexes they will have to buy a collector’s issue. A price and other details about it will be announced on Wednesday.
MLB The Show 21The launch of the Xbox platforms was predicted in a December 2019 announcement, with both Nintendo and Microsoft acknowledging that the Sony franchise will come to their platforms. (Details on a Nintendo Switch launch were not given Monday).
The absence of MLB on the two platforms dates back to the formation of 2K Games itself when Take-Two Interactive bought Sega’s Visual Concepts studio in 2005 and negotiated an exclusive third-party license with MLB. Sony reserves the right to make its MLB the Show series with San Diego Studio (then 989 Sports).
With the change of console generation from 2005-2006, the MLB franchise of 2K Sports declined in quality and never got back on its feet, while MLB The Show undoubtedly became a sports title for consoles for PlayStation. The only Major League Baseball licensed video game for Xbox and Nintendo since 2013 was the remade RBI Baseball series, an arcade-style game developed by MLB Advanced Media.
Shortstop Fernando Tatis, Jr., begins his third season with the San Diego Padres this year. He was the son of former base player Fernando Tatis, St. Louis. Louis and New York Mets.
Tatis, Jr., is one of the second-generation baseball stars to make the league in the last four seasons, including Cody Bellinger of the Los Angeles Dodgers and Vladimir Guerrero, Jr., Toronto, Vladimir Guerrero, Cavan Biggio and Bo Bichette.
