Tony DeAngelo played his last game with the Rangers, general manager Jeff Gorton told reporters on Monday.
DeAngelo, the attackingly gifted but hot-headed defender, turned down the apology on Monday after being named after a confrontation with goalkeeper Alexandar Georgiev after Saturday’s overtime loss to the Penguins.
The Rangers have assigned DeAngelo to their taxi group, and they are expected to try to exchange the 25-year-old.
A pick from the Tampa Bay Lightning in the first round in 2014, and DeAngelo’s production – with an impressive 53 points in 68 games last season – has consistently taken a back seat to negative attention distractions.
DeAngelo was suspended several times during his hockey career.
He signed a two-year $ 9.6 million two-year deal with the Rangers last season, his third team since being drafted.
