Orange County’s Cumulative Death Reaches 3000 on January 30 – Orange County Register

Forty-three new deaths were reported across the country on Saturday, raising the total number of COVID deaths to 3,018. More than a third of the reported deaths, 1,143, were in January.

The data on deaths in the country are compiled from death certificates or collected through the course of case investigations and it can take weeks to process. The most recent death was recorded on January 22nd.

The Orange County Health Care Agency reported 1,279 new cases of the coronavirus on Saturday, January 30, increasing the cumulative total in the country to 231,036 cases since detection began.

The province also reported 1,442 patients in local hospitals, which is 79 fewer than the previous report. There are 394 patients in intensive care units on Saturday, 32 fewer than in Friday’s report. The hospital patient totals are about the same as where they were in mid-December.

An estimated 20,223 cases of the virus have been recorded in Orange County in the past 14 days.

According to the provincial update, 2,665,629 tests have been given for the coronavirus since the test began locally, with at least 22,215 new tests since the previous report.

Of the cumulative 3,018 deaths reported by the virus, 827 were competent residents of nursing homes, 323 in relief facilities, one was a prisoner in the OC and five were listed as homeless.

The province’s death rate by age is as follows:

  • 85 and older: 34% (1026, higher than 11)
  • 75-84: 23.33% (704, 15 higher)
  • 65-74: 19.29% (583, higher 10)
  • 55-64: 13.34% (401, higher 4)
  • 45-54: 6.59% (199, higher 1)
  • 35-44: 2.15% (65, higher 2)
  • 25-34: 1.09% (33)
  • 18-24: 0.2% (6)
  • 17 and younger: 0.03% (1)

It is estimated that 173,862 people have recovered from the virus since Saturday. The number of people who recovered is based on the previous count of 28 days.

The data posted each day is preliminary and subject to change, officials stressed. More information may become available as individual case investigations are completed.
