Ashley Turner, daughter of Mayor Sylvester Turner, is getting married.
The mayor shared the good news on Saturday during a media conference at HOPE Clinic, which currently administers COVID-19 vaccines to high-risk individuals.
“Excuse me if I’m a little excited, my daughter got engaged today,” he said. “I said ‘yes’ before she did. She took too long to say ‘yes’. ‘
The engagement announcement comes one day after Ashley Turner’s birthday. She turned 34 on Friday.
Father and daughter had a volunteer event at Kids Meals Inc. earlier Saturday. attended in honor of Ashley Turner’s birthday.
“I decided to celebrate my birthday this year, I do not want to do much because of COVID,” Ashley Turner told Chronicle. “So I asked some friends and family to come with me voluntarily.”
What she did not know is that her loved ones, including mother Cheryl Turner, were also planning a surprise car parade. On Instagram videos, a masked crowd is seen on a social level singing ‘Happy Birthday’ in the head office of the non-profit office in Garden Oaks. Vehicles sank as they pulled through the drive-through style event.
“Only his mother and sister knew he would propose, it was the last car,” Ashley Turner said of her fiancé, future mother-in-law and sister-in-law. ‘They opened the trunk with pictures of Jimmy and I. There’s a sign called’ Marry me ‘. “
Jimmie Captain, 42, and Turner met two years ago at the retirement of Captain’s mother.
“She was HPD and we met on the campaign. I did not even know she had a son,” Ashley Turner said. ‘Two months later he moved my DMs in to thank me for coming to the retirement party. It was a journey. ”
The couple started friends before the relationship became romantic one year ago.
Captain handed over his dream ring, a rose gold design, to his future wife.
“I can not remember what he said, I was so caught off guard,” Ashley Turner said of the proposal. “This is what I needed for 2021 to start this year on such a high note.”
The upcoming bride joined Lone Star College in May 2018 as executive director of community relations. She previously worked at the Busy Bee Health Center and the Legacy Community Health Services.
The mayor was very excited at the HOPE Clinic on Saturday.
“If you see my daughter, tell her happiness,” he told the crowd before adding a little fatherly humor. “I saved $ 500 for this wedding.”
