A Massachusetts congressman who received both doses of the Pfizer coronavirus vaccine tested positive for the virus on Friday.
Democratic Rep. Stephen Lynch has previously tested negative Attending President Joe Biden’s Inauguration on January 20th. He was tested again after a staff member in his Boston office contracted the virus earlier this week.
Pfizer said it could take seven days before the second dose is protected, NBC 10 Boston reported. Lynch’s office said he received the second dose of vaccine before the inauguration on January 20, nine days before his positive test.
The Pfizer vaccine is rated at 95 percent effective against the virus, although it has not been tested for the mutations that came from the United Kingdom and South Africa.
In the statement, his office said Lynch had no symptoms of COVID-19. He will place self-quarantine in the coming week and vote in Congress.
Lynch was the second Massachusetts Congressman to test positive in as many days. Rep. Lori Trahan said on Thursday she tested positive after repeatedly testing negative.
