A transistor radio fan pretended to be an air traffic controller in Germany.
The 32-year-old Berlin man was arrested on Thursday night after police said he made contact with air traffic and gave false flight instructions.
One of the planes he illegally contacted was a police helicopter sent to his area as part of a police raid to catch him, German officials said.
During a search of the suspect’s apartment, police found two radios sent on the frequencies needed to make contact with aircraft.
“For anyone who has asked about our police helicopter operations in Koepenick, an unusual arrest,” Berlin police tweeted.
The suspect – whose name was not released – is accused of making contact with both state and federal helicopters, as well as passenger and transport aircraft, for a period of six months.
The man became increasingly professional with his communication, but gave ‘potentially dangerous’ instructions. Fortunately, his crimes did not lead to incidents or accidents.
