While Utah Senator Mike Lee opposes former President Donald Trump’s second indictment, he is asking the wait for Liberal Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez because he tweeted that Texas Senator Ted Cruz is trying to “kill me” by helping to te ril. protesters who stormed the Capitol.
“It came to my attention that Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez sent a tweet a few hours ago in which she accused one of our colleagues – twice – of attempted murder,” wrote Lee, who for years had was Cruz’s close ally. .
“I believe we, as a conference, should call on her immediately and in public to withdraw her statement and to apologize. If she refuses to do so – and maybe even if she does not, I think she should be admonished or censored by the House. ‘
Lee Carroll spokesman Conn Carroll said the Federalist report was accurate, but he declined to comment further. “Communications communications are usually confidential and we will respect the use,” he said.
The dust-up came after Ocasio-Cortez started a series of tweets, where she asked hearings to investigate the app-trading app Robinhood. This came when the company temporarily halted trading in several stock purchases after online users began inflating shares of GameStop to undermine hedge funds.
Cruz said in a tweet that he agreed with the call – but the congresswoman then replied that she did not want his help.
‘[Y]You had me killed almost 3 weeks ago so you can evict this one. Happy to work with almost any other GOP who is not trying to kill me, ”she tweeted.
It was an apparent reference to the riots and storms of the American Capitol on January 6th. Cruz was one of the leaders in an effort to reverse the outcome of the election college that day. While the House has charged Trump on charges of inciting the riot, others have also said members of Congress trying to overthrow the election are to blame.
Ocasio-Cortez also tweeted Cruz in her tweet, “[I]If you want to help, thank you. ‘
Lee was not the only one calling against the New York congresswoman. Rep. Chip Roy, R-Texas, sent a letter to House President Nancy Pelosi saying if Ocasio-Cortez did not apologize, Republicans would find other ways to condemn her statement.
“If Representative Ocasio-Cortez does not immediately apologize, we will be forced to find alternative ways to condemn this deplorable statement,” Roy wrote. “It is my sincere hope that we all stop this heightened rhetoric and continue to do the work for which the American people have sent us here.”
While Lee Ocasio-Cortez condemned for saying Cruz tried to kill her through actions that may have caused riots, he opposed an indictment for Trump this week on charges of inciting the riot. He did so in a vote on whether the accusation of a president who had already left office was constitutional, and was among 45 Republicans who voted it unconstitutional.
Lee issued a brief statement after the vote.
“If the Senate were to adopt a broad interpretation of the prosecution – one that would allow federal officials to be convicted on a charge of indictment even after they leave office,” Lee said in a prepared statement, “the result would not be not only be problematic, but also contrary to the text, structure and historical understanding of the Constitution. ”
Utah Senator Mitt Romney was one of only five Republicans to vote for the process to be constitutional. This suggests that Trump is unlikely to be convicted, as 17 Republicans will have to join all 50 Senate Democrats to achieve the required two-thirds majority.
