11 Fort Bliss soldiers fall ill after consuming drugs, says Army

A group of 11 soldiers in Texas fell ill Thursday after consuming a drug while completing a field exercise, the military said Friday. The incident is being investigated, according to a statement from the 1st Armored Division at Fort Bliss in El Paso.

Two of the soldiers were in critical condition, the division said. All 11 receive medical care in an army hospital.

The soldiers became ill ‘after consuming a substance obtained outside the authorized distribution channels for food’, the division said. The group includes a warrant officer, two non-commissioned officers and eight designated personnel.

“Our commitment to our soldiers and families remains our top priority as we work to understand what happened on January 28,” Major General Sean Bernabe, senior division commander of the division and Fort Bliss, said in a statement. .

The section is known as ‘America’s Tank Division’, according to the fort’s website.
