Microsoft’s sustainability report is much more interesting than ‘Minecraft’ map

As for the report itself? Microsoft has said it is making some progress, although there are clearly still years to go before it reaches its targets. It is slightly closer to becoming carbon negative after removing 1 million tonnes of carbon for fiscal 2021, and it is approaching water positive after investing 700 times more in water replenishment projects in 2020. The technology giant has also had some success in reducing waste and forming partnerships to protect fragile ecosystems.

Many of these figures you will not find surprising in the Minecraft card, and Microsoft clearly does not expect this project to become a sensation. After all, this is not a conventional save-the-planet action game. Nevertheless, it can succeed if it makes even a handful of people think practically about sustainability.
