Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced on Wednesday that the company will no longer recommend civic and political groups to its users.

The change comes in the wake of the January 6 uprising at the US Capitol.

“It’s a continuation of the work we’re been doing for a while to lower the temperature and discourage divisive talks,” Zuckerberg said in a call to analysts following the company’s earnings in the fourth quarter.

This comes after the company temporarily decided in October to no longer recommend these groups to U.S. users ahead of the 2020 U.S. election.

In addition, Zuckerberg said the company is now considering steps to reduce the amount of political content users see in their News Feed.

“One of the most important feedback we’re currently hearing from our community is that people do not want politics and fighting to take over their experience of our services,” Zuckerberg said.
