  • OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei has launched his new startup called Nothing.
  • The company will launch smart devices in the first half of the year.

OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei left the smartphone maker last year and later confirmed he was working on a new venture. Pei confirmed that the new company has no name.

“Nothing’s mission is to remove barriers between people and technology to create a seamless digital future,” reads an excerpt from a press release from the company. So what does the company offer now?

The company noted in the release that its first “smart devices” will be launched in the first half of the year.

However, it did not reveal anything more specific, but Pei said earlier Wired that the company is sound-related, and that there will be several products coming in 2021. The CEO added at the time that the new company is about more than just headphones.

The Pei tells The edge that nothing will offer products in different categories, and is aimed at building an ecosystem of products.

“The ultimate vision is to connect everything in a seamless way, this can only happen if you have several categories of products linked together,” said the co-founder of OnePlus. He also added that the company plans to make most of its money from hardware rather than software subscriptions, with earlier speculations pointing to a music service.

Pei also suggested that nothing would re-brand someone else’s products.

It’s also noteworthy that Nothing’s European head is David Sanmartin, who was recently OnePlus’ European e-commerce director, according to his LinkedIn profile.
