The recent decline in coronavirus cases and hospitalizations is unlikely to be related to the spread of vaccines, and people should continue to follow health counseling to slow the spread of the virus, say the country’s leading expert in infectious diseases.
‘The number of vaccines we have received in the arms of humans, [it’s] “It’s a good start, we want to keep getting a lot of people vaccinated, but I do not think the dynamics of what we’re seeing with the plateau right now are still significantly affected – it will be soon – but still by the vaccine,” Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), said in an interview on NBCTodayShow Monday.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), nearly 22 million doses have been administered across the country, with more than 41 million distributed.
Fauci said the decline in cases and hospitalizations in recent days is likely due to a natural plateau of infections following the boom driven by the holiday season. Business has fallen more than 20 percent in the past two weeks nationwide. The average of seven days for new daily cases is more than 167,000, and more than 110,000 people are currently hospitalized with COVID-19.

“We do not want to become complacent and think, ‘Oh, things are going in the right direction, we can pull back a little bit’, because we do have a variant in the country that is spreading in more than 20 states in the country now,” said the president’s chief medical adviser.
The British variant, which CDC says is likely to become the dominant tribe in the US, it is believed to be more transmissible, and UK health authorities warned last week that there was evidence that it could be more deadly.
Fauci stressed that the data is still preliminary, but he is fairly convinced that the severity of the actual infection is some increase.
Health officials said they believed current vaccines should be effective against the British strain and the new South African strain.
