A teenager has been arrested in connection with a Sunday murder in Indianapolis that left five people and an unborn child dead.
The youth was involved in the massacre that took the lives of Kezzie Childs, 42, Raymond Childs Jr., 42, their 18-year-old son Elijah, 13-year-old daughter Rita, 19-year-old Kiara Hawkins, and her. the unborn child ‘Baby Boy Hawkins’, police said in a statement.
The victims were found with gunshot wounds in a house in the northeastern city on Sunday morning.
A sixth victim – a teenage boy – is in critical condition but is expected to survive his gunshot wounds, police said.
“Yesterday we promised swift justice for this heinous act. “Today we have kept our promise,” said Randal Taylor, head of Indianapolis. tweet.
“While removing the alleged perpetrator of yesterday’s mass murder from our neighborhoods does not make life meaningless, hopefully it will bring us one step closer to healing as a community,” Taylor continued.
The suspect’s name was not released due to his age. It appears he acted alone in the targeted attack, officials said. A motive has not been released.
It was the “largest mass casualty shooting” in Indianapolis in more than a decade, Taylor said.
The crime left neighbors sad and looking for answers.
“To take an entire family out like that … I just do not understand,” Vicki Pinkston told WTHR.
Pinkston, who lives across the street from the crime scene, said she recently downloaded some baby items for the expectant mother.
‘I just gave them some goodies from my great-grandchild when he was born, but he’s bigger now. The baby would appear next month, “Pinkston said according to the station.
Pinkston said the family was ‘so loving’.
“Oh sir, they say, ‘Hello, Miss, Vicki,'” she told FOX59.
The massacre comes after Indianapolis is the most violent year on record.
According to Indianapolis Star, Indiana’s largest city recorded 245 murders in 2020.
