Puerto Rico declares state of emergency due to gender violations

(CNN) – The governor of Puerto Rico, Pedro Pierluisi, announced a decree declaring the state of emergency issued to the violators of gender, according to a statement issued by the governor’s official at home.

The media, according to the communication, hopes “establishment, impulse and execute programs of protection, prevention and orientation against the violence of gender and establish programs of attention to the victims”.

The decree also creates the Committee for the Prevention of Education, Support, Rescue and Education of the Violence of Gender, “Committee PARE”. The committee will be integrated for 17 members and three representatives of gender violence organizations.

In accordance with the decree, the PARE committee will present its first information on progress 45 days after the first meeting and 30 days before 30 June 2022, which is the time when the state of emergence will become permanent.

At least 5,517 female victims of domestic violence violence have been arrested since December 2020, according to the Puerto Rican Police Domestic Violence Division.
