Lionel Messi was omitted for the first time in the history of FIFA’s Team of the Year (TOTY).
EA Sport has managed the team, which was previously based on FIFPro’s World XI of the Year, since the Ultimate Team mode in FIFA 09.
Since that issue, Messi has so far been included with every TOTY. This year, Cristiano Ronaldo, Robert Lewandowski and Kylian Mbappe pick up the forward spots.
The rest of the team consists of Manuel Neuer a goal; Trent Alexander-Arnold, Sergio Ramos, Virgil van Dijk and Alphonso Davies in defense; while Kevin de Bruyne, Bruno Fernandes and Joshua Kimmich forms the midfield.
Unlike previous years, Ramos is the only representative of LaLiga Santander in the XI.
