WandaVision episode 3 may have dropped just hours ago, but one of its most important moments is already in Kevin Smith’s top 10 MCU scenes of all time.

WandaVision episode 3, “Now In Color”, has one of Kevin Smith’s favorite scenes in Marvel history. His debut at Disney + just last week, WandaVision is the first of a series of episodic MCU content to hit the streaming service over the next few years, and the series celebrates the leap to television by parodying the history of American sitcoms. The criticism and fans’ reaction to the first two episodes was positive, which means that many people spread out on their calendars over the next few Fridays.
One of the people is undoubtedly Kevin Smith, a director whose debut movie is Clerk remains a beacon for independent filmmaking. Besides being a lifelong fan of comic books that incorporate the fandom into his movies (even within his own shared universe), Smith has written storylines for Marvel and DC and even his own comic book store. He’s apparently one of the most famous voices in the Marvel fandom that inspired Chris Hemsworth to shake up Thor Thor: Ragnarok, and he even exists within the MCU from a Mallrats reference in Captain Marvel.

Kevin Smith regularly shares his immediate reactions to MCU content on Twitter, and the director seems very disgusted WandaVision episode 3, which appeared on Disney + today. Smith is careful to avoid spoilage, but he clearly wants to discuss the episode, referring to a specific scene with a screenshot of actress Elizabeth Olsen of Wanda / Scarlet Witch, which he particularly impressed. He has judged the scene among his ten favorites in the history of Marvel Studios and praised the art at all levels, calling Olsen’s performance in it the dignity of TV’s highest honor.
Viewers who saw the new WandaVision episode will immediately know what moment Smith is referring to, and it’s definitely emotional. After Wanda gives birth to twin sons, Billy and Tommy, she sadly shares with Geraldine (played by Teyonah Parris) that she is also a twin and that her brother is named Pietro. It seems to evoke a memory in Geraldine, who asks if he was killed by Ultron, referring to Pietro / Quicksilver’s death in the climbing battle of Avengers: Age of Ultron back in 2015. While interviewing Wanda Geraldine, who tries to fall back into her happy sitcom behavior, Olsen and Parris subtly display a variety of emotions that communicate a struggle between the two characters, the exact nature of which remains a mystery. The scene ends with the expulsion of Geraldine from the Westfield area, who is believed to be protected by Wanda.
It’s hard to think that many fans disagree with Smith on this, because the excellent scene indicates a deeper conflict at the heart of WandaVision‘s sitcom parodies without revealing too much concrete information about the program’s secret. Olsen discussed how such moments of clash between the sitcom world and the larger MCU are best for her as a performing artist, and she can show in this episode why. Whether scenes like this make her Emmy-worthy is up for grabs, but she can expect at least one Marvel-loving filmmaker to fight for her when the time comes.
