The Texans’ bizarre offseason took another odd turn as the team interviewed quarterback Josh McCown, who was on their active roster at the end of the season.
The Texans announced the McCown interview today.
McCown did coaching in high school, but to say he does not have the typical qualifications for an NFL head coach would be a big understatement. He was not even that much of a quality control coach in the NFL or college football.
If McCown were hired, it is believed he would be the first player to move directly from an active player to an NFL head coach since Norm Van Brocklin, who was the Eagles ‘full-back in 1960 and the Vikings’ head coach in 1961 .
That the Texans would even consider McCown indicates that Jack Easterby is making another odd showdown in the front office, or that McCown has developed a close bond with quarterback Deshaun Watson, and the Texans think that McCown Watson, who is so unhappy with the appointment of McCown, would resign. the team has fueled the great speculation that he will persevere and want to claim a trade.
The Texans have also announced that they have interviewed Jim Caldwell for their vacancy as head coach.
