31 caregivers at Central Oregon Hospital test positive for COVID-19

REDMOND – A hospital in Central Oregon reports a COVID-19 outbreak among workers.

The St. Charles Redmond Hospital said late Wednesday that 31 people tested positive, investigating the health services of Deschutes County and the Oregon Health Authority, KTVZ-TV reported.

It is unclear how the outbreak took place. St. Charles Health System, Inc., is headquartered in Bend. They own and operate St. Charles Bend, Madras, Prineville and Redmond.

Iman Simmons, chief operating officer at St. Charles, said Wednesday night that ten of the 31 caregivers received the first of two doses of Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine. According to her, some may have received the second dose but could not confirm it.

She said the 31 people infected would be paid for two weeks and that they should be symptom-free and negative for the virus before going back to work.

There are new precautions in the hospital, such as testing all caregivers and increasing air circulation. They also restrict visitors.
