Pete Buttigieg to testify for the nomination of the Secretary of Transport during the confirmation of the Senate

Buttigieg is expected to play a key role in the bid for President Joe Biden for a dual infrastructure package. During the campaign, Biden proposed spending $ 1.3 billion over ten years to build schools, roads, bridges, railroads and pipes, expand broadband access, and usher in a “100% clean energy economy.”

“We need to build our economy better than ever before,” Buttigieg is expected to say according to his prepared remarks. ‘The Department of Transportation can play a key role in this by implementing President Biden’s infrastructure vision that creates millions of well-paid jobs, revitalizes communities left behind, enables American small businesses, workers, families and farmers to compete and winning in the world economy and tackling the climate crisis. ‘

Buttigieg often spoke about infrastructure on the campaign from the perspective of a small-town mayor, arguing that local governments like the one he previously run need people in Washington who understand their needs and issues.

Some top Democrats believed Biden Buttigieg, 39, wanted to get a top job as a way to raise a rising star in the Democratic Party. Buttigieg’s future aspirations are no secret, but the former mayor’s political future in his conservative home state has long been a roadblock.

Buttigieg served as mayor of South Bend from 2012 to 2020 and served as an intelligence officer in the U.S. Navy Reserves for six years. He was deployed to Afghanistan in 2014 for six months.
After returning, Buttigieg came out as gay in an essay for the South Bend Tribune. Later that year, then-mayor Buttigieg won re-election.

Buttigieg often talked about being gay during his bid to become the Democratic presidential candidate in 2020, and for many LGBTQ Americans, he has become a symbol of progress. His marriage to Chasten Buttigieg and presidential campaign normalized homosexuality and marriage in presidential politics.

“I am proud to have him by my side, and I want to thank him for his many sacrifices and his support in making it possible for me to do public service,” Buttigieg said of his husband.
