The natural follow-up to Deshaun Watson wanting to be with the Texans in Houston is where he needs to take his quarterback talents. Current 49ers cornerback Richard Sherman has a suggestion for the disgruntled player: make your way to the Jets.
The advice was given about the ‘Cris Collinsworth Podcast with Richard Sherman’, which presents Pro Football Focus, shortly after the former All-Pro defensive back was asked what he would do if he were in the exact situation of Watson.
“If I were Deshaun, I would get out of there as quickly as possible,” he said. “I choose New York”
Sherman explained that he meant the New York Jets before noticing that what makes the team so attractive is the decent offense and that they have the necessary space to go looking for weapons. It is also noteworthy that the new Jets head coach, Robert Saleh, has been the defense coordinator in San Francisco for four seasons and has coached Sherman for the last three. Sherman continues to say that the addition of Watson to the Jets would also make it a preferred destination for said offensive weapons, which are likely to face an oversaturated market in the off-season.
“They say he does not answer any text or calls, I would not either,” Sherman added. “He did everything. He looked for a beating for you and played effectively … His level of play did not drop with the team. He did not let the bad season say ‘Hey, I’m going to be bad too. ‘
As previously reported, it’s hard to put into words how incensed Watson is with the only organization he has played for. His frustrations go to the owner, Cal McNair, though other issues that upset him include that the team initially decided not to interview Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bienemy, and Jack Easterbrook who has the power of the front office consolidate without any consultation with Watson.
