The woman (18) was fatally shot dead while listening to music in the car in the eastern valley

An 18-year-old woman has died after someone opened fire from the back seat of a crowded vehicle in an eastern Las Vegas apartment complex, police said late Monday.

Ray Spencer, murderer at the Metropolitan Police Department, said it happened just after 8:20 p.m. in the parking lot of the Corona del Sol Apartments, located at 4700 E. Charleston Boulevard, near Lamb Boulevard.

It is unclear whether the shooting incident was accidental or intentional, Spencer said.

“At the moment we do not know what gave rise to the shooting,” he said, adding that detectives were investigating both possibilities.

There were six people in the vehicle at the time of the shooting, Spencer said – a mixture of teenagers and young adults listening to music. The young woman who was shot was taken to the trauma unit of the University Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.

Detectives spoke to two of the people who were in the vehicle, but three others fled the scene: a young woman and two young men, Spencer said.

No further information was immediately available.
