Apple finally redesigns the iMac for 2021 (and we can not wait)

We’ve been expressing our feelings about the design of Apple’s current Mac range for the past few months. Almost every new version in 2020 had a familiar (read: old) design, and probably the worst offender is the 2020 iMac. Last year’s machine looks identical to every iMac released since 2012. But if new leaks are to be believed, the 2021 iMac is finally increasing the trend.

According to Bloomberg, the first iMac makeup in almost a decade will not only reduce the size of the screen’s screens, but it will also flatten the curved back of the machine to give a much slimmer profile. It may still be our best computer for graphic design, but anything that makes the iMac belong here in the 2020s can only be a good thing.

Bloomberg reports that the new iMac, expected to be launched in 2021, will have a design reminiscent of Apple’s sleek (but ridiculously expensive) Pro Display XDR (below), with small rings and an ultra-thin body. Besides the Pro Display of 2019, the 2020 iMac can only be described with one of the internet’s favorite words: chonky.

And the good news for iMac fans does not end there. Along with a brand new design, the 2021 iMac is believed to be Apple’s brand new and incredibly fast M1 chip, which is currently only available in the new MacBook Pro, MacBook Air and Mac Mini. The new chip, released in November, is a game changer for creative products – and we’re surprised to see that the M1 MacBooks has already received an unexpected price reduction.
