Dozens arrested in NYC as cops, protesters clash outside City Hall Park

Police and Black Lives Matter demonstrators Monday clashed outside City Hall Park, which resulted in dozens of arrests and several injured officers, authorities said.

The confrontation began around 8:30 p.m., after hundreds of protesters who had originally gathered outside the Barclays Center marched across the Brooklyn Bridge in a protest in honor of Martin Luther King Jr., according to social media reports.

After entering Manhattan, they encountered a fierce police presence and chaos showed online footage.

According to sources, ten police officers were injured and a captain was hit in the helmet with a bottle.

According to police sources, one protester, who was arrested, swung a stick at an officer.

In a video posted on Twitter, police can be seen how several protesters turn up and push, and another person on the street wrestles to the ground.

Officers can be heard in the online video, which commands the protesters to stand on the sidewalk.

‘Fk you’, some of the crowd can be heard shouting at the police. “You are animals,” other people say according to the video.

At least 29 arrests have been made near Chambers and Center streets, and according to sources, many are accused of obstructing traffic.
