According to former NBA player Stephen Jackson, Brooklyn Nets guard Kyrie Irving bought a home for George Floyd’s family.
Jackson, who was a good friend of the late Floyd, revealed on the podcast “The Rematch” that Irving, along with other celebrities, reached out to help Floyd’s family.
“Kyrie Irving bought them a house. Lil Wayne’s driver bought them a Mercedes-Benz. Barbra Streisand gave them shares in Disney,” Jackson said.
Irving’s gesture was made five to six months ago, a source close to the observatory confirmed to Marc J. Spears of The Undefeated.
Floyd, a black man, died in Minneapolis in May while in police custody after a white officer knelt on Floyd’s neck for more than seven minutes. His death sparked a spate of protests across the country.
Irving was active out of court on social justice issues.
In July, he allocated $ 1.5 million to supplement the revenue of WNBA players who chose not to play the 2020 season in their bubble, either because of concerns about the coronavirus or because of social justice.
Last week, while he was not on the team, Irving appeared on a Zoom call with others showing support for a candidate’s campaign for a lawyer in Manhattan.
Irving missed seven consecutive games due to a combination of personal reasons, the NBA mandate and a build-up of basketball activities before his return. He averaged 27.1 points, 5.3 rebounds and 6.1 assists in seven games this season for Brooklyn.
