Samsung launches Galaxy Watch Active 2 with fitness and health-focused update

The Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2 has been updated with a number of updates over the past six months, and it will receive a number of new features.

Samsung does not seem to have given up the smartwatch in favor of the new Galaxy Watch 3, but it does seem that it is committed to keeping its older, cheaper and sportier smartwatch a compelling purchase.

The update first lands in South Korea, but should arrive worldwide at any time.

Automatic exercise detection will now start faster, which will make it even more useful to track workouts. This applies to running and elliptical workouts.

Sleep Detection has received a boost, with more data users can examine after waking up. Exactly what this data will be, however, is not entirely clear.

A handwashing timer has been added so users can make sure they get their full 30 seconds of hygiene with virus kill.

And Samsung Health has been updated to allow users to take part in fitness challenges against friends and family.

Finally, my smartwatch feature was added via SmartThings.

This is a major update of features, and great to see that the Galaxy Watch Active 2 is still supported. At the end of last month, the company added a bunch of features of the Galaxy Watch 3, including ECG and blood pressure tracking.

With all these features and the Galaxy Watch Active 2 priced at less than £ 200 and regularly treated to decent deals, it is still one of the most recommendable devices out there for Android users.
