After launching the first M1 MacBook Pro in November, all eyes are on the following versions. According to two reports from the most accurate analysts in the business, they can deliver everything we want.
TFT Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reiterates rumors that a new 14-inch MacBook Pro comes with a refreshed 16-inch model, both featuring next-generation Apple silicone with ‘more cores and improved graphics’ , according to a similar report by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.
They can also bring a new design. According to MacRumors, Kuo says that the new models “cancel the curved design of the upper and lower parts of existing models and adopt a platform-shaped form factor design, similar to the 12.iPhone 12.” Presumably it refers to the corners of the case, but Kuo offers no other clues. Gurman says the new MacBooks “will look similar to current versions, albeit with minor design changes.”
Kuo and Gurman also agree that MagSafe will return. Apple killed the fast-coupled magnetic MagSafe in favor of USB-C a few years ago, but brought back the name and magnetic concept with the iPhone 12. Kuo does not provide any additional details other than that the technology will be ‘restored’. although Bloomberg sheds a little more light on the rumor: ‘The connection will be similar to the elongated pill-shaped design of the older MagSafe port. Despite moving away from USB-C for charging, Apple will still include multiple USB-C ports on its future Macs. The report also states that the MagSafe report will enable MacBooks to “load at a faster rate.”
Even more surprising are the allegations that Apple will kill the Touch Bar. A somewhat controversial decision that arrived in 2016, the Touch Bar is a small screen above the numeric key that offers extra functionality than the regular function keys. In his report, Kuo claims ‘the OLED touch bar has been removed and the physical function buttons are being restored’, while Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that Apple ‘has tested versions that remove the touch bar’.
As for the exhibits, Bloomberg reports that they will not only be larger, but also with a larger contrast panel. Apple may turn to mini-LED for the new screens, as earlier rumors have done.
