(CNN Español) – The President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, expressed his respect for the exile, on behalf of the General Taxation of the Republic,’n Salvador Cienfuegos, Secretary of Defense during the term of office of President Enrique Peña Nieto (2012-2018). The Mexican mandate says that it has no elements to judge in Cienfuegos, but it is said that its governor should end with impunity and corruption.
“The Fiscalia has the resolution to determine that there are no elements to judge Cienfuegos. El gobierno avala, respalda (a la Fiscalía). We know that we must end impunity, corruption. Salvador Cienfuegos Zepeda was detained on October 15, 2020 at the Los Angeles International Airport. A court in New York District Este has accused the general public of allegedly abusing its public position to help a Mexican cartel traffick drugs in the United States in a so-called exchange. Cienfuegos was declared innocent of the cargoes.

This Wednesday, the Department of Justice told CNN in a statement that “the United States reserves the right to prosecute Cienfuegos and the Governor of Mexico does not do so.”
