Coronavirus
EL PASO, Texas – The El Paso Department of Public Health announced Thursday that it has received 5,000 extra Covid-19 vaccines after depleting its previous 5,000 doses at a mega-web distribution earlier this week.
The message about receiving the added vaccines comes when Judge Ricardo Samaniego and Mayor Oscar Leeser held a news conference on the success of El Paso’s vaccination effort so far.
The health department said those who have pre-registered for vaccination should be on the lookout for a call or email if they are selected to be vaccinated in the next round.
The latest shots will be fired from Friday at a dose of 1,000, Lesser said.
Only those who are health care workers, older than 65, or suffering from a critical medical condition can currently be vaccinated according to Texas guidelines.
Officials said El Paso receives about 3% of the state’s latest grant, although the community is less than 2% of the state’s population.
Across Texas, the state has now distributed more than one million doses of the Covid-19 vaccine as of Thursday, according to the government office, Greg Abbott.
