Texas is a leading total of 2 million cases of coronavirus; Dallas County recorded 21 deaths, raising tolls by more than 1,800

With the addition of nearly 27,000 new cases of coronavirus on Wednesday, Texas surpassed more than 2 million cases during the pandemic.

Meanwhile, Dallas County on Wednesday reported 2,994 new cases of coronavirus and 21 new COVID-19 deaths, bringing the province’s death toll above 1,800.

Ten of the victims were Dallas residents: a woman in her 40s, a man in his 50s, a man and a woman in their 60s, a man and a woman in their 70s, three men in their 80s and a man in his 90s.

The 11 other victims include a Glenn Heights man in his 40s, a Richardson woman in her 50s, a Grand Prairie man in his 50s, a Duncanville man in his 60s, a Grand Prairie man in his 60s, an Irving man in his 60s, a Richardson man in his 60s, a Garland man in his 70s, a Duncanville man in his 70s, a Carrollton man in his 80s and ‘ a DeSoto woman in her 80s.

A total of one victim had underlying health conditions, the country said.

Of the cases added Wednesday in Dallas County, 2,589 were confirmed and 405 likely. The newly reported cases bring the province’s total confirmed cases to 199,948 and probable cases to 25,681. The province recorded 1812 COVID-19 deaths.

Judge Clay Jenkins, County of Dallas, said the UT Southwestern Medical Center has updated its coronavirus prediction models to show that by Jan. 22 to 1,900 patients for COVID-19 and about 3,600 new cases per day could be in the hospital.

“It’s about numbers,” Jenkins said in a written statement. “Our hospitals are currently very thin and our heroes in healthcare have been working tirelessly since last spring.”

The province said it only considers positive antigen tests (sometimes called rapid tests) as likely cases; some antibody and “household” results were previously included.

While other North Texas counties give estimates for how many people have recovered from the virus, Dallas County officials do not report recovery, noting that the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention does not use that measure.

Health officials use hospitalizations, intensive care visits and emergency visits as key statistics to track the real-time impact of COVID-19 in the country. In the 24-hour period that ended Tuesday, 1197 COVID-19 patients were in acute care in hospitals across the country. During the same period, 572 ER visits were for symptoms of the disease.

The county reported that 7,310 school-age children tested positive for COVID-19 from 674 Dallas County schools, with 1,422 of the cases reported during the last week of December. A total of 41 cases were reported among school nurses and nursing assistants, 19 of whom were diagnosed in the past week.

The province’s preliminary average of seven days of daily newly confirmed and probable cases for December 27-January. 2 reporting period was 2227. According to the province, the figure is calculated according to the date of the COVID-19 test collection.

Dallas County does not offer a positive percentage for all COVID-19 tests conducted in the area; provincial health officials said they do not have an accurate count of how many tests are done each day. But since the country’s most recent reporting period, 31% of people who showed up at hospitals with COVID-19 have tested positive for the virus.

Statewide data

Across the state, there were another 26,808 cases and 405 COVID-19 deaths reported. Texas has now reported 2,022,635 cases and 30,624 deaths.

Of the new cases, 22,270 were confirmed and 4,538 likely. The state reported 1,775,619 confirmed cases and 247,016 probable cases.

The state also added 290 older confirmed cases and 245 older probable cases recently reported by labs.

There are 14,106 COVID-19 patients in Texas hospitals, including 4,104 in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. According to the state panel, 25.04% of the patients in the hospital region covering the Dallas-Fort Worth area were COVID-19 patients.

The average positivity rate of seven days across the country for molecular tests, based on the date of collection of the test sample, was 17.89% as of Tuesday. State health officials said the use of data based on when people were tested provided the most accurate positivity rate.

For antigen tests, the positivity rate for the same period was 13.02%.

Tarrant county

Tarrant County reported 2,286 cases of coronavirus and 15 new deaths on Wednesday.

The most recent victims include a man from Arlington, a woman from Fort Worth, a woman from Hurst and a woman from North Richland Hills in their 60s; An Arlington woman and a Fort Worth man and woman in their 70s; a Fort Worth man, a Richland Hills woman and a Bedford man and woman in their 80s; and two women from Arlington, a Mansfield woman and a Pantego man in their 90s.

A total of three of the victims had underlying health conditions.

The cases just reported bring the province to 183,080, including 158,423 confirmed cases, 24,657 probable cases and 130,469 recoveries. The death toll stands at 1,777.

According to the numbers on Wednesday on the provincial dashboard, 1,446 people are being admitted to hospital with the virus.

Collin county

The state on Wednesday added 1,299 cases of coronavirus and 11 new COVID-19 deaths. The province has now posted 60,267 cases and a death toll of 439.

No details about the latest victims were available.

Of the new cases, 726 were confirmed and 573 likely. Collin County recorded 52,566 confirmed cases and 7,701 probable cases. According to the state’s data, the province has 5,754 active cases and it has recorded 46,812 recoveries.

The province’s coronavirus dashboard offers only total hospitalizations, now at 552.

Denton county

Denton County reported 650 cases of coronavirus – 529 of which are active – and no new deaths were reported on Wednesday.

The newly reported cases total the province’s 44,808, including 13,580 active and 30,991 recoveries. They also increase the total molecular cases to 36,467 and antigen cases to 8,341.

The province’s death toll stands at 237.

There are 231 patients who have hospitalized COVID-19, the province reports.

Other provinces

The Texas Department of Health Services has taken over reporting for these other North Texas counties. In some provinces, new data is not reported every day.

The latest numbers are:

  • Rockwall County: 7,876 cases (6,596 confirmed and 1,280 likely), 64 deaths.
  • Kaufman County: 11,066 cases (9,662 confirmed and 1,404 likely), 146 deaths.
  • Ellis County: 15,799 cases (13,933 confirmed and 1,866 likely), 187 deaths.
  • Johnson County: 13,744 cases (12,258 confirmed and 1,486 likely), 191 deaths.
