HEB had earlier announced that it would administer the COVID-19 vaccine, but the grocery was having problems while the US struggled to export the vaccine.

However, those in phase 1B will soon be able to make an appointment to receive the vaccine at a HEB pharmacy.

“HEB has requested a different grant from the state of Texas,” the grocer said in a Jan. 11 press release. “Our initial award has already been distributed or is planned. We are awaiting another vaccine award from the state of Texas so that we can continue to vaccinate healthcare providers as well as offer vaccines to those in Phase 1B.”

HEB said it would activate its appointment planning tool once the vaccine was granted. A fixed date has not been set.

Phase 1B vaccine administration at HEB includes those 65 and older and those 16 and older (or 18 and older for the Modern vaccine) with chronic diseases that increase the risk. Phase 1A includes frontline health workers and residents of long-term care facilities.

An appointment must be scheduled at vaccine.heb.com to receive the vaccine at a HEB pharmacy. Walk-in appointments are not accepted.
