Atletico Madrid suffered a decisive 2-0 defeat to Sevilla on Tuesday night to further strengthen their grip on LaLiga Santander’s summit.
Kieran Trippier returned to the Atletico XI, and both sides started relatively well.
But it was the armies that struck first, and the Englishman provided the aid. Angel Correa. Trippier cut the ball back for the Argentine, who turned well before hitting Bono at his nearby post.
Luis Suarez had almost doubled the lead before half an hour was played, but Bono did well to deny the No. 9.
Except for the Andalusians, Atleti held control of the match relatively comfortably until the break.
Sevilla started the second half with more urgency in their game, but Los Rojiblancos were usually defensive and had Joao Felix and Saul Niguez suggested when they seemed to get on their forefoot again.
They did exactly that as Saul doubled their lead within ten minutes of its launch. Marcos Llorente right before galloping and getting Saul, who picked out the bottom corner of the edge of the area.
With only six goals conceded all season LaLiga SantanderAtleti would probably never throw away a two-goal lead, and it proved they would see the game four points clean with two games in hand over Real Madrid.
