COVID in MN: State launches new, enriched vaccine data dashboard – WCCO

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) The state of Minnesota on Tuesday unveiled a new, more comprehensive COVID-19 vaccination panel. Meanwhile, Minnesota health officials reported 1335 more virus cases and 13 more deaths.

The dashboard is manufactured by Minnesota IT Services (MNIT) and MDH. The dashboard is designed in a user-friendly way with four tabs on top to keep a close eye on.

“Today, Minnesota unveiled its new COVID dashboard on the state’s response website,” said MNIT commissioner Tarek Tomes. “This dashboard shines a light on important date to shape and promote the best possible outcomes.”

From the summary that more than 144,000 people received at least one dose of the vaccine, to whom are vaccinated – 2.6% of Minnesota’s population. There’s a map showing Mahnomen and Olmstead County with the highest percentage of their population getting a shot.

The dashboard provides more specific information on the administration and distribution of vaccines, how many doses were sent to health care providers in the state (329,450) and how many total doses were promised by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (541,100).

“We are committed to ensuring that Minnesotans know how much vaccine is coming to our state and how many of our neighbors are receiving their shots when it’s their turn,” said Minnesota Health Commissioner Jan Malcolm. “Transparency is a cornerstone of our vaccine effects. We are pleased to provide Minnesotans with this important information as the light at the end of the tunnel becomes brighter. ”

According to the dashboard, more than 152,000 doses of vaccines have been administered in the state since January 9, with nearly 7,400 people completing the two-shot vaccine series. The state used about a third of its total doses.

“This dashboard provides Minnesotans with transparency and promotes confidence that the dose of COVID-19 vaccines is consistently arriving in Minnesota, and that shots are going into the arms of our health care workers and the most vulnerable family and friends,” said MNIT commissioner Tarek Tomes . “This will help Minnesotans visualize our progress toward ending this pandemic.”

The data show that administered vaccine doses have increased every week since mid-December. From 4 677 doses administered on the week of 13 December to 63 727 doses administered during the week of 3 January. The data also show daily applications for vaccines.

Yet less than 0.1% of Minnesota people completed the vaccine range and less than 3% had at least one shot.

“The COVID-19 vaccination data can be used to monitor the coverage of state and county immunization and achieve progress with national, state and local coverage objectives. The data can also help identify endangered populations and encourage public health actions and policies aimed at boosting immunization. The data can not tell us why people are not vaccinated. Some people may not have easy access to the vaccine, and some people prefer not to be vaccinated. “Some people may also have received vaccinations that were not recorded in MIIC, such as those that were vaccinated in another state,” reads a note board on the dashboard.

The website also shows that 13% of people vaccinated were 65 years or older, a percentage lower than in other states. It’s all part of the Phase 1A plan that Minnesota health officials want to complete by the end of the month from now on.

“In this first phase, we prioritized health professionals and individuals in competent nursing homes and assisted living facilities,” explained Kris Ehresmann, Director of MDH Epidemiology. “We do not withhold any vaccine. If we get 100 doses, we distribute 100 doses. ‘

The federal government now commands states to vaccinate someone 65 or older, but the Department of Health has many questions with the directive. There are no additional doses yet to fit the plan.

With the death toll from the coronavirus approaching 400,000 nationwide, the Trump administration unexpectedly announced on Tuesday that it would no longer block the second-dose vaccine. This virtually doubles the supply. This is the same approach that President-elect Joe Biden announced Monday.

The CDC says nearly 9 million Americans received their first vaccine doses. This is only about a third of the more than 25 million doses distributed.
