Disneyland Resort becomes the first mass vaccination site to distribute COVID-19 vaccines in Orange County, California. At the end of this week, thousands of people could be vaccinated every day in the so-called “happiest place on earth”. Disneyland will be the first of five similar sites in the region.
“Coronavirus has caused a public health crisis and economic devastation. With this super-site, we will both begin to overcome, “said Harry Sidhu, the mayor of Anaheim, where Disneyland is located, in a statement. “Every vaccination done in Anaheim will help save lives and expedite the reopening and restoration of our city.”
Southern California has seen an increase in COVID-19 hospitalizations and deaths in the past month as it became the center of the pandemic. About one in six residents tested in Orange County has tested positive for the new coronavirus in the past seven days. In neighboring Los Angeles County, it is one in five.
Each person vaccinated is one minor resident who is at risk of becoming ill or spreading the disease. Officials around the world have therefore turned to stadiums and fairs as part of their plans to incite vaccinations. The Dodger Stadium in LA will stop delivering COVID-19 tests and will do vaccination by Friday. Seven mass vaccination sites have already opened in the UK this week, where the first authorized vaccine was administered, reports CBS.
