Michigan Begins $ 300 COVID-19 Unemployment Benefit to Residents

LANSING, Mich. – Michigan has started making $ 300 weekly COVID-19 unemployment payments to eligible residents affected by the pandemic.

According to the Department of Labor and Economic Opportunities, the state started issuing the payments to about 365,000 plaintiffs over the weekend.

The unemployment benefits against pandemic run from December 27, 2020 to March 13, 2021. They offer an additional $ 300 per week benefit to Michigan claimants negatively affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Claims do not have to act to receive the additional payments. They are paid automatically after they are certified.

“The UIA team has worked tirelessly to ensure that Michigan is one of the first states to implement the PUC program,” said Acting UIA Director Liza Estlund Olson. “Now that we’ve received additional USDOL guidance, we remain committed to implementing the remaining federal PUA and PEUC programs as quickly as possible to get money out the door.”

Workers who have used on Pandemic Unemployment Assistance and Emergency Unemployment Compensation do not have to act. According to government officials, they will not be able to complete certifications and payments will not be issued weeks after December 26 until the technical updates of the UI system are completed.

This will only be a disruption and plaintiffs will recover once the expansions are fully implemented, the state said in a release. An estimated completion date is not yet available.

‘These workers must be insured they will not miss any benefits and receive every dollar they are entitled to once the programs have been fully implemented, ‘Olson said.

PEUC offers 11 additional weeks of benefits to those who have used up regular state unemployment benefits. PUA offers unemployment benefits to those who are not normally eligible for unemployment, including self-employed workers and gig workers.
