WWE announces that Drew McIntyre tested positive for COVID-19

WWE Champion Drew McIntyre would meet Randy Orton on Raw tonight (January 11). That will not happen, because WWE announced a few minutes ago that McIntyre had tested positive for COVID-19 and was “quarantined.”

Just as shocking as the news itself is the company’s decision to make it public. Despite several reports of behind-the-scenes outbreaks in 2020, WWE has always worked or given other explanations for anyone who was outside the coronavirus. For whatever reason, in 2021 they have changed course to one of their biggest stars.

In addition to the non-title match with Orton announced last Friday, a Royal Rumble match with Goldberg has been set for Royal Rumble On January 31st. It is possible that McIntyre may be healthy by the end of the month, but WWE may want to draw up a backup plan just in case.

We’ll find out tonight. Join us to wish a speedy and complete recovery for McIntyre.
