Jeep’s Grand Cherokee L of 2021 has Land Rover in its sights – Robb Report

Look out, Land Rover. Jeep has just unveiled its fifth generation Grand Cherokee, and there is no doubt that the carmaker has a certain British SUV in its sights.

The hulking American quad bike is available in three different variants: there is a standard two-way version and a plugged-in hybrid model called the 4XE. But it is the Grand Cherokee L that will appeal to luxury car drivers. The model is designed with an extended wheelbase and features three rows of soft seats that can carry seven and a flurry of high-quality features.

The new design of Jeep follows the original Grand Wagoneer from the nineties, which was considered the most luxurious American SUV on the road. The market plans to launch on the next generation of Wagoneer in the second quarter of this year, which means the new Cherokee will be in good company.

Thanks to a handful of adjustments on the outside, the 2021 Grand Cherokee L has an attractive appearance. It has a longer hood and cabin, a thinner seven-sided grille with front side and slimmer LED headlights than its predecessor. Both the front and rear have been tilted to give the SUV a striking, slightly boxy silhouette. The base wheels have a diameter of 18 centimeters, but can be exchanged for 21-inch alloy tires if you want a little more.

Under the hood, the base model is equipped with a natural aspiration of the 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 delivering 290 hp and a torque of 257 ft. Opt for the Overland or Summit finish, and you’ll be upgraded to a 5.7-liter natural-aspirated V-8 that can boast 357 horsepower and a 390-ft turn. Whichever engine you choose, the power is sent to the wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission.

In terms of driving, the ride has a brand new air suspension with adjustable shocks that continuously adapts to the road conditions as well as the driving style. It works with five different terrain modes to adapt to weather and road conditions.

The new model will be available with three 4 × 4 systems called Quadra-Trac, plus a new front axle decoupling. Basically, if the Cherokee determines that the conditions do not require a four-wheel drive, the front axle automatically shuts off and switches the car to two-wheel drive to improve fuel efficiency. Four-wheel drive automatically switches on again if necessary.

Inside, the cabin is available in four trim levels: Laredo, Limited, Overland and Summit. The new stripe layout includes a 10.3-inch digital measurement and an 8.4-inch central touchscreen, along with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto wireless. Upgrade to the Summit finish, giving you a larger screen and an exclusive sound system designed by McIntosh Laboratory sound experts. The Summit and Overland finishes also offer customizable cruise control, orbital centering assistance, a head screen and a night camera.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee L is expected to go on sale this spring and is expected to cost around $ 40,000. The two-row and hybrid models will meanwhile start by the end of the year.
