I did not expect it today.
Maverick Truck Club forum
Ford already sells passenger vehicles – it’s all in trucks and sports utility vehicles. But the Blue Oval knows that it should keep things somewhat affordable, and you could very well look at one of the two vehicles that become entry-level models at Ford dealers: Maverick pickup.
The photo posted on the Maverick Truck Club forum, with no acquisition but a bit of digging, is probably the Maverick. Rumor has it that the compact truck at Ford’s plant in Hermosillo, Mexico, will go into production, and the interior of the plant looks almost identical to photos of the Ford Bronco Sport, which is currently being built in the factory, which is rolling out the production line. At first we thought it might be the next generation Ranger due to its serious upright posture and proportions, but we do indeed believe that it is the compact truck.
Ford did not immediately return Roadshow’s request for comment on the photo, although we expect crickets when it comes to a leak.
The Maverick, the front nameplate for this new truck, will be one of the two new Fords we heard about that are meant to be vehicles on Ford. Dealer sources earlier said Ford showed the Maverick and a current unnamed crossover during a dealership meeting, and both will be very affordable, apparently about $ 20,000 to start. The second vehicle replaces the mediocre Ecosport in Ford’s range.
How can Ford build a pickup and sell it so cheaply? It will not be a vehicle on the frame. Instead, it should ride on Ford’s C2 architecture that supports the latest generation Focus sold abroad, the Escape and the Bron21 Sport of 2021. As mentioned, the Bronco Sport is already in production at this Mexican factory. The small SUV also highlights how good Ford is at taking a unibody platform and making it look like a rough and tough thing. The Maverick wants to take away the same lessons with a blocky front end. We also have a leaked photo of the truck tailgate last year too.
We do not have thorough information about when the Maverick will make a formal debut, but if Ford is building prototypes, we’ll probably hear more soon.
