The county of San Diego is taking the lead in getting more healthcare workers vaccinated up front by partnering with local partners UC San Diego Health, the Padres and the city of San Diego to open the province’s first COVID-19. Vaccination Superstation.
Up to 5000 health workers per day to be vaccinated quickly and safely on the driveway. Healthcare professionals need to make appointments online and provide proof that they are a healthcare professional. Chairman Nathan Fletcher brokered the deal with partners to join the county’s superb “POD” pilot.
Launched by the province, this new ‘POD’ (delivery point) program is a way to quickly and safely vaccinate the 500,000 health workers in our region who are eligible for the Phase 1A Tier category on the state of California’s vaccination priority list . The province had previously established four small pods throughout the region that administered hundreds of vaccines daily to health workers, who will continue to work, but the Vaccination Superstation will administer up to 5,000 doses per day of vaccines to healthcare professionals.
Nathan Fletcher, chairman of the Board of Supervisors in San Diego County, was in talks about forming a partnership with Patty Maysent, CEO of UC San Diego, and Pradeep Kholsa, Chancellor of UC San Diego. This partnership will help facilitate faster distribution of local vaccines.
“The Vaccination Superstation increases our ability to administer the vaccine to health workers as a vaccine, ”said Chairman Fletcher. The opening of this vaccinated vaccination site will be a major milestone in California’s COVID recovery when it opens Monday. With UC San Diego Health assisting this new regional partnership, we will get vaccinations in the arms of health care workers much faster. We appreciate them; the Padres and San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria to help us make it happen. ”
From Monday 11 January 2021, the Vaccination Superstation will work for health workers seven days a week from 07:00 to 19:00 (see list of who qualifies for this). Vaccinations are only given to healthcare professionals who have made an appointment online at www.VaccinationSuperStationSD.com. The County’s Vaccination Superstation will be located on the Padres-controlled Tailgate Lot, a sprawling space located on Imperial Avenue near Petco Park. Health workers will be required to provide proof that they are a health worker when they arrive at the site. Healthcare workers will be able to stay in their vehicle to receive the vaccine shot, and will remain on site for 15 minutes to be monitored. Once cleaned, they can drive away.

The unique combination of leadership, resources, expertise and logistics of this partnership will deliver optimal public health results to the benefit of all in San Diego County. ”

Chairman Fletcher says the county hopes to eventually repeat the replacement vaccination “POD” model in San Diego County. No timetable has been set, but the chairman said the model appears to be effective; and more doses of the vaccine become available and individuals designated for Tier 2 and Tier 3 are eligible Vaccination Superstation The model will be essential to distribute the vaccine to more people in a fast, safe environment.
The city of San Diego has joined the traffic control services and security of the San Diego Police Department.

The county of San Diego administered its first COVID-19 vaccines on December 16, 2020.
Quick tips for healthcare professionals making an appointment at the Vaccin Super Station
- Healthcare workers are encouraged to first contact their healthcare providers to request the vaccine, but if none are available, they should make an appointment for COVID-19 in the province. Vaccination Superstation

- Do not schedule an appointment if you have COVID-19 or are ill. Follow the CDC guidelines for these situations
- Medical professionals administering the vaccine will wear personal protective equipment.
- Wear a mask
- Acceptable forms of evidence must be presented at the Vaccine Super Station
- Employee ID badge with photo or other documents, including a professional license and a photo ID, signed letter from their employer on facility letterhead and a photo ID; or a paycheck or roster from their health care employer or support services at home with a photo ID
