An ongoing COVID-19 outbreak in a nursing home in Cayuga County on Wednesday claimed the lives of four more residents.
The Cayuga County Department of Health reported four deaths, two women in the 90s and two men in the 80s, in its latest situation report. The nursing home residents tested positive for the virus before they died.
No further information, including the nursing home where the residents lived, was released. But a COVID-19 tracker reveals that the deaths at The Commons on St. Anthony, a nursing home in Auburn.
The Commons is in the midst of an outbreak that has affected more than 115 residents of the facility. According to the state’s virus tracker, there were 15 deaths associated with COVID.
A spokesman for Loretto, which operates the facility, said earlier this week that precaution against drops applies throughout the nursing home. Under these protocols, employees must wear personal protective equipment, such as face shields, gloves and gowns, when caring for residents.
The outbreak over the past few weeks has contributed to Cayuga County increasing the virus-related death toll. This week, the country reported 13 COVID-19 deaths. There are 25 deaths within 11 days, according to a review of the Department of Health’s daily reports.
